Preston Elementary PTA
Volume 8 Issue 07
Information from Mrs. Wendland

I am so excited that fall is finally here!  There are so many things to be grateful for right now...exemplary kids, engaged families and our amazing staff - just to name a few!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our 8th annual Veterans Day celebration.  We appreciate PTA providing the breakfast and our staff organizing the beautiful tribute!

There are several grade level and group field trips coming up in the next week - please be mindful of the communication coming home so that you don't miss important deadlines or special instructions for these activities.

In the past, our campus has raised money for Kids Against Hunger to come out in May and lead our staff and students in packaging meals for families in need all over the world.  This year we have decided to support All Community Outreach (ACO) with various service projects throughout the year to better serve our friends and neighbors within our community.  Be on the lookout for opportunities to donate specific items at various times during this school year to fill the needs!

As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, this is just a reminder that November 22 is an early release day.  All students will be dismissed at 12:00 PM.  Allen ISD buses and daycare buses are aware of this and will adjust their schedule accordingly.  Please plan to pick up your child at noon that day if they are a car rider.  Lunch will still be offered on the condensed schedule; however, it will be a sack lunch by pre-order only.  If you would like to order a sack lunch for your child that day, please complete THIS FORM for EACH student by Friday, November 15.  This will give our kitchen staff ample time to plan for our lunches that day.

As always, thank you for trusting us with those who matter most to you!

Warm regards,

Mrs. Wendland

Lunch News

Parents and special guests may visit for lunch. We can only accommodate 8 guests per grade level. Please plan to visit only ONE time per week, as lunch time with friends is an important opportunity for students to practice age-appropriate social skills. Use this link to sign up so that our front office will know you're coming! Sign-up for lunch is something new this year and we thank you in advance for honoring this request. This will give our office staff time to print your visitors badge in advance, check that the visitors signed up are authorized to be with your child, and make sure that we have enough seating a space for your visit. Don't forget to bring your photo ID when you come.

Just a few lunchtime guidelines to keep in mind:

  • Parents and guests will sign in at the front office
  • Parents and guests will meet their student on the stage at the designated lunch time. Students and parents must remain seated on the stage throughout the lunch period - no one is permitted to leave the stage and mingle with students or teachers in the cafeteria.

  • Parents and guests are not permitted in other areas of the building.
  • Students will rejoin their class in the cafeteria at the end of the lunch period.
  • Please use trash receptacles provided and keep the area clean for the remaining guests.

The lunch visitor sign-up for the fall semester can be accessed  HERE.  You will also find it linked on the Preston website.

Reflections Reception

We held a reception honoring the amazing artists that participated in the PTA Reflections Program. We had some incredible submissions that were able to advance to the next level.

Reflections has been a staple arts program in many schools for over 50 years. Through the efforts of our Local PTAs, millions of students have found a creative outlet in the areas of dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography, and visual arts.

We are so proud of our awesome artists!

Information from Allen ISD

The unofficial results are in from the 2024 Allen ISD bond election, and voters have shown their support for Propositions A and C.

In total, more than 98% of the dollar amount in the bond proposal was approved by voters. Proposition A, approved with more than 56% of the vote, will support Allen ISD students through campus renovations, safety and security enhancements, transportation upgrades, the construction of a multi-purpose activity center, and other necessary capital project needs. Proposition C was approved by more than 53% of voters and will update and refresh technology devices for students and staff as part of the Empower 1:1 program.

“I want to thank our community members for their overwhelming support for both Propositions A and C to benefit the students and staff of our school district,” said Superintendent Dr. Robin Bullock. “This bond proposal was created by a dedicated group of community members serving on the Project Kids committee, and I am so grateful for their thoughtful approach in building a bond package that was enthusiastically supported by the voters.”

Proposition B, which would have replaced the track surfaces at Curtis Middle School and Lowery Freshman Center, fell short with 48% of voters supporting the projects. The district will now determine the next steps to address the pressing needs at both of these track facilities.

Allen ISD will certify the election results at an upcoming Board of Trustees meeting. Following the certification, the District will prepare for the first set of projects to begin in spring/summer 2025.
