Information from Mrs. Wendland

What a joy it was to welcome both returning and new students to the Pride this morning! I hope that everyone had a chance to rest and recharge for the upcoming school year...it's going to be a GREAT one! Our teachers have been hard at work preparing the classrooms and planning engaging experiences with the goal of growth for ALL kids at the forefront.  I am so proud of the way that our staff pours into our students weeks before they even step foot in the doors.  I am truly blessed to serve this campus!

Our theme this year is "Make Your Mark"! We'll be challenging students to be mindful of the impact they have on themselves and others around them through their words and actions.   Ms. Palmertree and I look forward to working with your students and fostering their growth and a love for learning! I appreciate your support and thank you in advance for the important role you play in our partnership.

Warm regards,
Mrs. Wendland

Traffic Flow at Preston

In order for our two carpool lines to run safely and efficiently, all parents must follow the designated traffic routes. Students and families walking or biking to school must use the designated crosswalks and pedestrian routes.

Reminders:

  • Student drop off in the parking lot is NOT permitted.
  • Pull all the way forward before unloading
  • Students must exit the vehicle on the passenger side of the car
  • Students should be ready and prepared to exit the car quickly
  • A car tag MUST be present for all carpool dismissal and will be checked against student's red backpack tag to make sure they match. If no car tag is present, the parent or pick-up person will be asked to park in the parking lot and go to the front office for assistance.

Morning arrival and afternoon dismissal during the first couple of weeks of school always takes a little longer. We appreciate your patience and cooperation!

Destiny Library Management System

Allen ISD has launched a new feature in the Destiny Library Management System for enhanced parental involvement, the Destiny Library Parent Access Account. Through this account, parents have the ability to search for book titles accessible to their student, view their student’s current book check outs, view their student’s checkout history, and block access to book titles for their student. Directions for the Destiny Library Parent Access Account can be found on the District Library Media Services Webpage as well as at this link.

Message from PTA
Sign up to be Room Parent

Each class has the opportunity for one or two volunteers to be a Room Parent.

Room Parents work with the PTA and the teacher to help pass along information, coordinate with other room parents for the winter & end of year parties, and communicate with parents about staff appreciation and birthdays.

ArtSparks Helpers Needed

ArtSparks volunteers visit their child's classroom one a quarter to teach a short art lesson and lead an activity.

Themes are set by the Allen Arts Alliance and guidance and materials are provided by the PTA. This is a fun way to expand the children's appreciation and connection to visual arts.

You can indicate your interest for Room Parent and/or ArtSparks on the
Volunteer Opportunities form in the PTA Back to School Packet

This summer the PTA hosted two Kindergarten Playdates for the incoming class of 2038 to help our newest students meet other kindergarteners and to help their families start making connections with other members of the Preston Pride.

Thank you to our volunteers who helped make School Set Up Day a success! The teachers are incredibly appreciative of all the work done to get bulleting boards up and school supplies delivered!

To celebrate the first day of school, the PTA provided the annual Back to School sign. We love seeing pictures of the kids so excited to start the year!

We also treated the staff to lunch from Pickleman's Gourmet Cafe to show our support and help make the first day just a little bit easier.

Huge thank you to G3 Roofing and Construction for sponsoring this lunch and helping us wish our teachers a great new year!

Have you ever wondered what it takes to run a school district with nearly 21,000 students, 3,000 staff, and 24 campuses on a daily basis? The Allen ISD Leadership Academy is designed to take community members on a deep dive into the operations of our school system via a full-day, once-a-month workshop that spans the upcoming school year.

The ideal applicants for the Leadership Academy are parents, grandparents, or community members who have demonstrated previous leadership or volunteer experience in our schools or greater Allen community. The Leadership Academy is not intended for current Allen ISD students or employees.

During the Leadership Academy, cohort members will have the chance to:

  • Visit various Allen ISD campuses and interact with principals and students
  • Tour our schools, including Allen High School
  • Engage in a team-building activity at the STEAM Center
  • Visit the operational hub of the Service Center
  • Step on the field during a behind-the-scenes tour of Eagle Stadium
  • Connect with Board members and District leaders to gain a comprehensive overview of our school district
  • Complete a volunteer project to help support our students.

Applications for the Leadership Academy are open until Aug. 17th. Apply today!
