Academic Programs

Each year, when you purchase a membership with the Preston PTA, you help us provide educational programs and memorable family events that benefit the students of Preston Elementary! Here’s a snapshot of some of the exciting programs we have planned for the 2019-2020 school year.

Destination Imagination

Destination Imagination is a project-based learning program that blends STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education with arts. Throughout the program, students use critical & creative thinking, team building, problem solving, risk taking, and project management skills to build their self-confidence. To learn more about how you and your child can get involved, visit the Preston Elementary Destination Imagination page.

Team Big Air Extreme Basketball Show: Topic – Anti- Bullying - October 17

This year, students at Preston Elementary School will have the opportunity to witness some amazing basketball tricks, stunts and acrobatics on the basketball court,  all while tackling the important topic of anti-bullying. This program will not only impress, but its positive messages are sure to resonate with our students throughout this next school year and beyond.

Preston Elementary Author Visit Day – November 12

Exposing our students to the gift of writing and storytelling is something that will last forever.  This year, the Preston PTA is thrilled to welcome celebrated children’s author, Marci Peschke, to Preston Elementary! She will spend the day speaking to each grade about her experiences as an author, the art of storytelling, and will encourage them to expand their minds when writing.

National Spelling Bee

Annual Preston Spelling Bee - December 6

At the Preston Spelling Bee, students compete against classmates by spelling words. This program encourages public speaking, increases vocabularies, and improves students’ spelling. The winner of the fifth-sixth grade Spelling Bee will advance to the local spelling bee. Check out spellingbee.com for more information.

Fort Worth Children's Opera Performance: Frida Kahlo and the Bravest Girl in the World - February 24

The Fort Worth Children's Opera will return to PES in February to perform Frida Kahlo and the Bravest Girl in the World - a brand new show on this year's line-up that teaches our students not only about art, but about the importance of bravery and friendship. This amazing event also gives our children the chance to play a role in this memorable story and interact with the actors on stage.  It's a fun, exciting day for everyone!
