Virtual Curriculum Night

Be on the lookout for information from your child’s teacher on the evening of September 22nd for Virtual Curriculum Night.

Run Club is BACK!

Calling any and all K-6 graders who are wanting to get in some extra physical activity this year. Preston's Run Club is coming back for its 6th year.  Run Club will meet on Tuesdays in the fall and spring from 3:00-3:40p.m., more specific dates are provided during registration. Starting onSeptember 27th, Run Club is a supervised event that takes place after school in the field behind Preston.  Your child will be escorted down to the gym on Tuesdays and you will not pick them up until 3:40.

Fall Picture Day – September 22nd

Traditions Portraits will be at Preston on Thursday, September 22nd. Be on the lookout for an email from Traditions Portraits about ordering pictures for your child.

Security

All visitors must show a photo ID before entering the building. Acceptable forms of identification are a driver's license, passport, or AISD badge. This includes lunch drop-off, student pick-up, volunteers, lunch visitors, etc.

Lunch Visitors

Lunch is a time for our students to socialize and interact with their peers. While we do welcome lunch visitors, we ask that you keep in mind that this time is important for your child and their social development. Additionally, our space for lunch visitors is limited. Please consider scheduling lunch visits once per week or on special occasions. Lunch visitor expectations are detailed on the left.

Fire Prevention Week poster contest

Submissions for the annual poster contest for Fire Prevention Week are due by Friday, September 16. Students may turn their submissions into the front office at Preston. Winners will be announced by the end of September and their submissions will be on display at the Allen Public Library during the month of October. 

Student Attendance

School hours are from 7:45 am to 2:55 pm

Doors open at 7:30 am

Tardy bell rings at 7:45 am

If a student arrives after 7:45 am, the parent will need to come inside and sign the student in.

 

Texas public schools are required to follow state attendance laws for excused and unexcused absences. Below is a list of helpful information regarding attendance. Please see the Allen ISD Student Handbook for additional details.

  • Absences for illness may be excused with a doctor's note received within 3 days of the student's return to school.
  • Absences without acceptable or timely documentation will be marked as unexcused.
  • Absences for travel are not excused.

Parent University

September 29th - Social Media Awareness, Digital Citizenship, and Cyberbullying

Time: 6:30pm – 8:30 pm. Remote via ZOOM or in-person at the Allen ISD PLAS Building

As a parent/caregiver, you lead the charge as a digital role model. Help your child develop a strong digital citizenship foundation while reminding them that their digital tattoo reflects their real and online selves. Parents/Caregivers have an important role to play in providing support and guidance during critical periods. Our Family Movie Night is on October 7, 2022.

Popcorn and bottled water will be provided by your PTA.

Book Fair - Volunteers Needed

Our Fall Book Fair, Monster Book Fair - Frightfully Good Reads, needs your help! Volunteering for the Book Fair is fun and easy! There are several opportunities for people to help and you may sign-up for as many slots as you'd like.
 

The volunteers we need fall into 2 basic groups:

  • Volunteers to help set-up, help with the student previews and take down the book fair
  • Volunteers to run the actual book fair

 Book Fair Timeline:

  • Monday, October 3 and Tuesday, October 4 - Decorate and Set Up 
  • Wednesday October 5 - Teacher & Staff Book Fair Preview Luncheon
  • Thursday October 6 and Friday October 7, student pre-views. Students come down as a class a preview the book fair.
  • Monday, October 10 through Friday, October 14 - Book Fair Opens 
  • Friday, October 14 – Tear Down at 1pm

All PTA volunteers are encouraged to wear a mask while on campus. We appreciate your help in keeping our students safe. 

Additionally, all volunteers must complete an AISD background check for this school year prior to volunteering.

REFLECTIONS!

We are so excited to announce this year's theme: Show Your Voice! The Reflections program is an excellent way for your child to show off their creativity in various categories: dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography, and visual arts. SPIRIT Wear Inventory

The Field Trip Shirt and Spirit Wear delivery day is Thursday, 9/22/2022!  Be on the lookout for labeled, clear plastic bags with your orders in backpacks that afternoon. They will be delivered to your child's classroom that day. 

Additional inventory ordered with the bulk order placed after 8.25.22 has also been added to the Preston Elementary PTA website under Spirit Wear and Gear Store. Inventory is limited so be sure and order if needed.

ARTSPARKS - Volunteers Needed!

There are still opportunities to be part of a fun and much-loved program at Preston. This is an excellent opportunity for working parents as there are only 4 commitments during the year, and they are all pre-scheduled.

The following classes still need volunteers; if you have friends in these classes, please let them know:

Kinder-Wilch, Olvera.  1st-Jackson, Johnson, Stevens. 2nd-Kinsey. 3rd-Nab. 4th-Conway, Chandler, Lambert. 5th-Howard, Icenhower. 6th-White.
