SUBJECT: Preston Newsletter 08/12/2024

Aug 12, 2024Preston Elementary PTAVolume 8 Issue 01
Information from Mrs. Wendland

What an amazing start to the school year we've had! I want to thank each of you for the warm welcome I've received since joining the Preston Family. Preston has a reputation throughout the district for being a very special campus and I have been blessed to experience that firsthand.  It's not one thing in particular that makes this place the dynamic learning environment it is, but a thousand little things put together - from the dedicated staff to the supportive families, and even the meticulous custodial crew - all play a part in creating the Preston Pride. I look forward to working with your students this year and fostering their growth and a love for learning! I appreciate your support and thank you in advance for the important role you play in our partnership.

Lunch News

Parents and special guests may start visiting for lunch on Monday, September 9. Guests are limited to 2 per student, per day. We can only accommodate 8 guests per grade level. Please plan to visit only ONE time per week, as lunch time with friends is an important opportunity for students to practice age-appropriate social skills. Use this link to sign up so that our front office will know you're coming! Sign-up for lunch is something new this year and we thank you in advance for honoring this request. This will give our office staff time to print your visitors badge in advance, check that the visitors signed up are authorized to be with your child, and make sure that we have enough seating a space for your visit. Don't forget to bring your photo ID when you come.

Just a few lunchtime guidelines to keep in mind:

  • Parents and guests will sign in at the front office
  • Parents and guests will meet their student on the stage at the designated lunch time. Students and parents must remain seated on the stage throughout the lunch period - no one is permitted to leave the stage and mingle with students or teachers in the cafeteria.

  • Parents and guests are not permitted in other areas of the building.
  • Students will rejoin their class in the cafeteria at the end of the lunch period.
  • Please use trash receptacles provided and keep the area clean for the remaining guests.

The lunch visitor sign-up for the fall semester can be accessed  HERE.  You will also find it linked on the Preston website.

NO FUSS FUNDRAISING

Join in on the fun with Preston PTA's primary fundraising event of the year, the No Fuss FUNDRAISER. It's the simplest way to show your support for your child/children at Preston Elementary.

Our goal is to wrap up all our fundraising efforts at the start of the school year. No more hassle with selling wrapping paper, baking goodies, or going door-to-door. All you need to do is make a donation on the Preston PTA website by clicking the image below.

Help us reach our goal of $11,000 so we can fund all of the amazing activities we have planned. Remember, your donation is tax-deductible! Please check with your employer about matching charitable donations from employees. If you have any questions about fundraising, feel free to reach out to Jessica at waysandmeans@prestonpta.org

Everyone who wants to volunteer at Preston needs to fill out the district's volunteer application/background check.

The application can take 2 weeks to come back, so be sure to fill it out soon!

Mark Your Calendar!

The Watch DOGS Pizza & Info night will be coming up on Tuesday, September 17th from 5:30-6:30 pm.

Sign up to be a Room Parent

Each classroom has the opportunity for a parent or caregiver to volunteer as the Room Parent.

Room Parents work with the PTA and the teacher to help pass along information, coordinate with other room parents for the winter & end of year parties, and communicate with parents about staff appreciation.

You can indicate your interest on the Volunteer Opportunities form on the PTA website.

The PTA helped kick off the year with a welcome back sign & photo op for families. We loved seeing your smiling faces as you started your year!

The staff was treated to a salad bar luncheon as our way of wishing them a great year and letting them know that the PTA is here to support them.

Your generous contributions to the No Fuss fundraiser help provide these. Thank you, families, for helping support our Preston community!

Leadership Academy Class

The application for the 2024-2025 Leadership Academy Class is open until Aug. 15, 2024. Apply today at https://forms.gle/x381TwvPA8dV9r1CA

The Allen ISD Leadership Academy is designed to provide community participants a comprehensive overview of the school district by campus and district leadership.

The structure of Allen ISD Leadership Academy is a full day, once-a-month workshop for seven months. Participants will tour campuses, hear from principals, interact with students via Q&A panels, and meet School Board members. District administrators will provide presentations about their departments and how they work to support the overall goals of Allen ISD. The cohort will also be tasked with completing a specific volunteer project to support Allen ISD.

The goal of the program is to engage with our community and provide educational resources about the operations of running a school district with 21,000 students and nearly 3,000 employees.

The application for the 2024-2025 cohort is open through August 15. Spots are limited, and submitting an application does not guarantee admittance into the academy.
