SUBJECT: Preston Newsletter 10/07/2024

Preston Elementary PTA
Volume 8 Issue 05
Information from Mrs. Wendland

What an AMAZING time we had last week celebrating all that makes us unique!  Thank you to all who participated in our annual Heritage Celebration.  We started the day with a festive student parade and ended with an evening of demonstrations, food, and performances from all around the world. This was definitely one of my favorite events!

Last week was a busy one, as we had our first ROAR Rally student assembly where we recognized students from each class who exemplify the character trait of respect.  We ended the week with our first Preston Pride Awards ceremony, honoring students who were nominated by their teachers as having outstanding academics, behavior and leadership skills.  Congratulations to our first round of recipients.

Thank you to our PTA who has worked so hard to provide a fun book fair experience for our students. We appreciate the preview days, the staff luncheon and the various staff incentives  - our PTA goes the extra mile to make our teachers feel the love!

Speaking of PTA....don't forget that today is the last day to complete the School of Excellence survey.  Your feedback is important to us and provides valuable insight to the needs and wants of our community. We appreciate your time!

Because time creeps up on us so quickly, I wanted to mention class parties before we head into the holiday season.  This is different from previous years, so I want to make this very clear:  Each student will be allowed ONE guest at the Winter Party and that guest MUST have a cleared background check on file.  I know this may be inconvenient, but I am not here to make access to my children or yours convenient or easy.  The volunteer background check is free and takes less time than signing up for a rewards program or digital TV service.  Just follow this link, create your account, and get the ball rolling!  (Be sure to hit SUBMIT!) There will be no exceptions on party day, so please take care of this ASAP. High volume traffic days can be chaotic and stressful - we will not let that detract from our focus on student and staff safety.  Thank you in advance for supporting  our safety efforts!

We are looking forward to Fall Break next week and Parent Conference Day on Friday, October 18.  If you haven't seen a sign-up from your child's teacher, be on the lookout for one very soon!

As always, thank you for trusting us with those you value most!

Warm Regards,

Mrs. Wendland

Afterschool Enrichment Programs
Lunch News

Parents and special guests may start visiting for lunch on Monday, September 9. Guests are limited to 2 per student, per day. We can only accommodate 8 guests per grade level. Please plan to visit only ONE time per week, as lunch time with friends is an important opportunity for students to practice age-appropriate social skills. Use this link to sign up so that our front office will know you're coming! Sign-up for lunch is something new this year and we thank you in advance for honoring this request. This will give our office staff time to print your visitors badge in advance, check that the visitors signed up are authorized to be with your child, and make sure that we have enough seating a space for your visit. Don't forget to bring your photo ID when you come.

Just a few lunchtime guidelines to keep in mind:

  • Parents and guests will sign in at the front office
  • Parents and guests will meet their student on the stage at the designated lunch time. Students and parents must remain seated on the stage throughout the lunch period - no one is permitted to leave the stage and mingle with students or teachers in the cafeteria.

  • Parents and guests are not permitted in other areas of the building.
  • Students will rejoin their class in the cafeteria at the end of the lunch period.
  • Please use trash receptacles provided and keep the area clean for the remaining guests.

The lunch visitor sign-up for the fall semester can be accessed  HERE.  You will also find it linked on the Preston website.

Thank you for making our Wild West Book Fair amazing and creating memories that will last a lifetime! Yeehaw!

We are grateful for everyone who took their time volunteering and shopping to make our Book Fair a success!

If you could not make it this time, we will have another one during Spring! Stay tuned!

WALK BIKE OR ROLL TO SCHOOL DAY!

October 9th is Walk, Bike or Roll to school day! This is a great way to get our students active and ready for their day!

Did you know that exercise can boost your immune system, improve your mood and help you feel more motivated?

Those who participate will get a ticket on their way in that morning to enter the raffle drawing for a chance to win a cool prize!

Parent volunteers are needed from 7:15-7:45 to help pass out tickets. Sign up here.

ArtSparks is this Week

The PTA's ArtSparks volunteers will be visiting classrooms this week!

This art enrichment program is a partnership with the Allen Art's Alliance and runs 4 times a year.

Volunteers bring in curated portfolios of famous artwork and engage students in discussion, reinforce art concepts, and provide a hands-on activity.

Watch DOGS Has Begun

The first Watch DOGS volunteer of the year was Matt D, who spent the day on campus with his first grader. Thanks, Matt!

If you are a dad or father figure and want to participate in this great program, head on over to the Watch DOGS sign-up page.

Is Your Project Underway?

All submissions for the PTA's Reflections art program are due by October 22nd in the art room.

Categories include dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography, and visual arts.

Visit the Reflections page for program rules and important dates.

The teachers and staff were treated to Elke's catering for lunch! Afterwards, they previewed the book fair and built their teacher book wishlists. Thank you to our volunteers for helping make this a successful event!

The PTA also helped provide refreshments to the campus Preston Pride Award recipients. Thank you to Celeste, Debra, Teja, and Ying for helping.

Through the book fair we were able to put so many new books in the hands of young readers! This is one of our favorite times of the year and we love seeing the children excited about new books.

Maximize Your Impact: Thank You for Supporting Preston Elementary PTA’s No-Fuss Fundraiser!

On behalf of the Preston Elementary PTA, we want to send a huge thank you for your generous support of our No-Fuss Fundraiser! Your contributions are essential to helping us provide valuable programs, resources, and opportunities for our students, teachers, and the entire school community. We truly couldn’t do it without amazing donors like you! To make your donation go even further, we encourage you to check if your employer offers a corporate matching program. Many companies will match charitable donations, meaning your gift could be doubled and have an even bigger impact on our school. If your employer participates, we’d be so grateful if you could submit a matching gift request. Once again, thank you for your generosity and continued support of Preston Elementary PTA. We can’t wait to share the wonderful results your contributions will make possible. If you have any questions or need help, feel free to reach out!
